Our Love for Church

Church was created for and by Jesus (Matthew 16:18). Humanity has tainted it and made war against it but it still stands and always will stand. God's role for the church can be found in 1 Corinthians 12:14-16 "Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the foot says, 'I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,' that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, 'I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,' would that make it any less a part of the body?"Unfortunately, the people of God have lost this understanding and we at Pendleton are trying to remember and remind our church family that we have all been given spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:8-12) in order that we return those gifts to the building up of the church family (1 Corinthians 12:714:12).

We believe in these healthy church expectations:

  • Church will not always make you feel comfortable.

  • Church will not be the answer to your every need.

  • You will sometimes not like what happens at church.

  • You might leave a service unhappy once in a while, particularly if you are seeing yourself in light of God's righteousness.

  • Going to church will not guarantee that your children will not rebel.

  • Going to church is not the answer to all your financial problems.

  • You might not get along with everybody you meet at church.

The goal at Pendleton is to create a want and a desire to be together as we walk this road on earth. This road we walk is broken, inspiring, tough, hilarious, hard, beautiful, unexplainable, and hopeful. We want to walk together and in front of us is our King, our Shepherd, our Savior, and our Redeemer. We don't walk alone at Pendleton.
